Empathify is a non-profit organization that provides educators across the globe with social-emotional learning (SEL) resources. Through our SEL curriculum, we hope to cultivate positive cognitive and social-emotional development in children and young students. We have a more detailed post here about how SEL encourages such critical development in a multitude of areas.
What do we do? We develop SEL lesson slides and present them during free workshops. Rather than strictly informative presentations, we incorporate fun, interactive activities for students to cultivate empathy and cultural awareness. Through engaging workshops and open conversations, we empower students to develop active listening skills, explore diverse cultures, and learn how empathetic language can create meaningful connections in life.
What aspects of SEL do we focus on? Our focus is divided into two parts. First, we train students to use language with empathy and compassion. This involves active listening, asking genuine questions to demonstrate curiosity and mirroring others’ emotions. Second, we give students a space to share their diverse cultures with one another, discussing history, cuisine, traditions, ideas and values. The purpose of this multi-dimensional approach is to help students create deep connections and give back to others as they grow up to become thoughtful, community-minded citizens in a diverse society.
