Pure Korean Words
Pure Korean words (순우리말) were created originally as Hangul and is native to Korean, without roots in Hanja (Chinese). Though much of 순우리말 has been destroyed or lost, we know at least several hundred words in 순우리말, some of which are listed below.
가온길 – 정직하고 바른 가운데 – Righteous path
감또개 – 꽃과 함께 떨어진 어린 감
강다짐 – 보수도 주지 아니하고 억지로 부림
고마워(요) – Thank you
꽃가람 – 꽃이 있는 강 – Lake of flowers
꽃잠 – 신혼부부의 첫날밤 – First night of a newly wed couple
나린 – 하늘이 내린 – Lowered by the sky
나릿물 – 냇물 – Stream
난이 – 공주 – Princess
늘솔길 – 언제나 솔바람이 부는길 – Path where the wind blows eternally
다솜 – 애틋한 사랑
다흰 – 흰 눈꽃같이, 세상을 다 희게 하는 사람 – All white (like snow)
등걸잠 – 옷을 입은 채 아무 데나 쓰러져 자는 잠 – Sleep anywhere, clothes still on
몽짜 – 음흉하고 심술궂게 욕심을 부리는 짓
바람 – Wind
슬기주머니 – 남다른 재능을 지닌 사람
아띠 – 친구 – Friend
아란 – 아름답게 자라다 – Grow beautifully
아름다워 – Beautiful
잡도리 – 단단히 준비하거나 대책을 세움
찬슬 – 슬기로움이 가득 – Filled with wisdom
투그리다 – 싸우려고 으르대며 잔뜩 벼르다
푸실 – 풀이 우거진 마을 – Village overgrown with grass
하늬바람 – 서쪽에서 부는 바람
헤살 – 일을 짓궂게 훼방함
